Our Values

Reinventing the dance floor to protect dancers

Since its creation in 2001, Spectat 's mission has been to challenge the state of the art and existing practices when they do not provide users with sufficient convenience, comfort or protection.

Because they offer the best protection, we build top-of-the-range sprung dance floors exclusively on pads. We refuse simplistic installations (floors on continuous underlay, etc.), or dangerous ones (mats laid directly on a hard floor, stiff dance floors, etc.).

We attach great importance to the environmental impact of our activities and the products we buy: see the page dedicated to our eco-responsibility page.

Standard for sprung floors

To date, there is no French or European standard governing the construction of sprung floors.

In the absence of a standard, some specifiers turn to the one that seems closest, namely NF P 90-203 relating to sports floors.

Is there any consistency between an indoor sports floor and a dance floor?

No. We can already see here that there is a conflict of objectives between a soil that :

- One side should allow a ball to bounce (indoor sports floor),

- On the other hand, it must be sufficiently shock-absorbent to protect the dancers.

The two needs are contradictory from a physics point of view: a sports floor cannot be a good dance floor, and a dance floor is not suitable for all sporting activities.

Dancing is a particular "sporting" activity, which places considerable demands on the dancers' bodies.

It requires equipment adapted to its specific nature, which is neither within the scope of the NF P 90-203 standard, nor in the measurement method it recommends.

That's why we refuse to test our floorboards to this standard, because we're convinced that this standard results in floors that are dangerous for dancers, and we have testimonials to that effect.

This is not in line with the research we've been carrying out for over 12 years to advance scientific knowledge on the subject.

We also regret that, in the absence of specific standardization for sprung floors, some manufacturers and/or specifiers rely on standard NF P 90-203 to qualify their floors.

We've been working with the relevant ministries for over 10 years, with the aim of publishing a standard specific to the needs of dance and dancers.
