A 1983 graduate of the prestigious Arts & Métiers engineering school, Loïc was hired by the project management team in charge of building the Opéra Bastille, which was to become a cornerstone of the French artistic scene.
Loïc's expertise did not go unnoticed, as he was soon involved in another major project: the construction of the Opéra de Lyon. These early experiences enabled him to hone his project management skills and develop an acute understanding of the complexities involved in major scenographic undertakings.
Following his involvement in these ambitious projects, Loïc was hired to set up the design office for the Opéra Bastille, which he managed for 12 years. His leadership during this period helped foster creativity and excellence in every aspect of design and execution. As the first engineer hired by a theater in France, he brought his rigor and ingenuity to set construction, set up a structural design office and composite materials workshop, and drafted the French standards for set construction that are still relevant today.
In 2001, Loïc took the bold step of establishing his own company, SPECTAT, in Avignon. Under his direction, SPECTAT has focused on two main activities: set design and engineering, and the creation of innovative dance floors of his own invention.

Throughout his career, Loïc Durand has been more than just an engineer or designer; he has been a visionary at the intersection of art and functionality. His work inspired many professionals in architecture, scenography and the performing arts. As he retired from SPECTAT this summer, the company he founded was ready for a new chapter under the leadership of his eldest son, Arthur.
Loïc leaves behind a legacy enriched by the culture of creativity and innovation he cultivated at SPECTAT. His influence will undoubtedly continue to resonate as Arthur takes over the reins, carrying forward the values and vision instilled by his father.
Although Loïc has been able to step away from his day-to-day responsibilities at SPECTAT, his impact will undoubtedly be felt for years to come. Under Arthur's leadership, the company is well positioned to innovate further and continue to expand its offering of dance and stage flooring for the enjoyment and safety of all dancers.
Loïc's legacy will remain a benchmark for future generations of engineers and designers. We celebrate his remarkable career and wish him a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement, filled with new adventures and opportunities to explore the arts in ways that inspire him and others.
Thank you, Loïc, for your incredible contributions to the world of scenography, performance and innovation. Your work has transformed spaces and enriched the lives of artists and audiences alike. Enjoy this new chapter in your life, you've certainly earned it!
