Spectat paves the way for breaking at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

As the world prepared for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an exciting and unprecedented event was about to make its debut: breakdancing. Formally known as "breaking", this energetic dance form was taking to the Olympic stage for the first time, and the Spectat team was working tirelessly to ensure the event was a success. In a recent initiative to prepare for this historic occasion, the Spectat team completed an ambitious floor-laying project that was crucial to the athletes taking part in the breaking events.

The Midnight Marathon

In the early hours of the morning, while most of Paris was still asleep, the Spectat team sprang into action. The clock struck midnight, and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and determination. With an impressive human-sized to-do list, team members, equipped with tools and materials, assembled on site, ready to take on the challenge ahead.

For a captivating sport like breaking - which combines athleticism, artistic expression and creativity - the choice of surface was vital. Spectat recognized that this event required not just a standard surface, but a specially designed stage that would allow breakdancers to perform jumps, rotations and graceful movements with both safety and style.

The Art and Science of Coating

Working tirelessly through the night, the Spectat team meticulously planned and executed every aspect of the flooring installation. This involved more than simply laying panels; each piece of vinyl had to be perfectly aligned to meet the athletes' needs for grip and fluid movement. In the breaking, where b-boys and b-girls performed incredible moves with rapid changes in momentum, the flooring had to be both forgiving and stable - a real balancing act.

With a blend of innovative materials and technical precision, the Spectat team designed a surface that would harmonize with the spirit of the event. The floor had to not only withstand the intensity of the performances, but also provide an aesthetically pleasing background that would capture the vitality of the breaking culture. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that every dancer felt valued and safe as they stepped onto the stage.

From Midnight to Twilight

As the clock ticked from midnight to 6pm, the Spectat team worked tirelessly, fueled by adrenaline and the conviction that they were part of something significant. With each panel laid, the atmosphere of anticipation grew thicker and thicker, and the excitement became palpable. As the day moved from the stillness of the night to the bubbling energy of a city waking up, the Spectat team kept moving forward.

As the sun began to set over Paris, a breathtaking scene was revealed - an arena that blended elements of urban culture with the Olympic spirit. The newly-laid pavement was a testament to hard work and dedication, ready to welcome breakdancers from all over the world for what promised to be a groundbreaking event in Olympic history.

A New Era in Olympic Sport

The addition of breaking to the Olympic program was an important milestone. It represented not only the evolution of the Olympic Games, but also the acceptance of diverse cultural expressions. As athletes prepared to showcase their skills on an international stage, the work done by the Spectat team went beyond logistical preparations - it helped create a space where individual stories, creativity and inspiration converged.

As the countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games continued, the image of b-boys and b-girls moving across the floor was a source of excitement for long-time fans of the sport and newcomers alike. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Spectat team, breaking's first-ever event at the Olympic Games was poised to be a monumental celebration of talent, culture and the ever-expanding range of athletic expression in the world of sport.

The Spectat team knew they had only just begun, but they believed there was no limit to what they could achieve together. The stage was set, Paris was waiting, and history was about to be written!

Spectat worked closely with Hurricane Parks, a Montpellier-based company specializing in breaking and urban sports events. Our partnership began in 2022, when our innovative dance floors were used for the breaking session of FISE, the international urban sports event they organize every year in Montpellier. Since that year, FISE has been officially registered on the "Breaking for Gold" circuit, under the aegis of the WDSF (World Dance Sport Federation)!
